"I'm not observing recovery from the outside. I'm living it, every single day."

If You're Here, You've Probably Felt...

"Like you've let everyone down—including yourself"

"Frustrated by a healthcare system that made you feel like a number"

"Skeptical that anyone could really understand what you're going through"

"Terrified of what happens if nothing changes"

"Exhausted from trying to manage this alone"

I've felt all of this too. That's exactly why I do this work.

My Story

I'm not here to judge you. I can't—I've been exactly where you are.

My own journey with addiction taught me more than any textbook ever could. It showed me what real recovery looks like: messy, non-linear, and absolutely possible.

For 18 years, I've worked in the trenches of addiction treatment, including at Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. I've sat with thousands of people in their darkest moments. I've developed programs that actually work. I've watched people transform their lives.

But what makes our work together different is this: I'm not observing recovery from the outside. I'm living it, every single day.

When you work with me, you get someone who has both the clinical expertise AND the lived experience to meet you exactly where you are. No judgment. No generic advice. Just real understanding and a structured path forward.

I've spent years working with adolescents and the last decade focused on adults. I've developed family support programs because I know addiction doesn't just affect one person—it ripples through everyone who loves you.

Now, through The Recovery Counselor, I'm offering the kind of personalized, accountable support that I wish I'd had. Virtual sessions mean you can do this work from anywhere in Canada, in the privacy of your own space.

Your Path Forward

Getting started is simpler than you think. Here's how we'll work together.

1

Discovery Call

We'll spend 20 minutes getting to know each other. You'll share what's going on, I'll explain how I work, and together we'll figure out if we're a good fit. No pressure. No commitment.

2

Choose Your Program

Based on where you are in your journey and what you need, we'll select the right level of support—from weekly sessions to intensive daily check-ins.

3

Begin Your Work

From our first real session, we dig in. This isn't just talking about your feelings. It's structured work with clear goals, accountability, and real tools you can use.

4

Build Momentum

Recovery isn't a straight line. We'll celebrate wins, navigate setbacks, and continuously adjust our approach. I'm with you every step.

Common Questions

Everything you need to know before getting started.

Is virtual counseling as effective as in-person?

Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person for addiction counseling. Plus, it removes barriers—no commute, no parking, no worrying about running into someone you know. You can do this work from the safety and privacy of your own space. Most clients tell me they actually prefer it. Book a call and see for yourself.

How is this different from AA or other support groups?

Support groups are valuable, but they're not for everyone—and they're not personalized. Working 1:1 means your program is built around YOUR story, YOUR triggers, YOUR goals. There's accountability to someone who knows you, not just sharing in a room of strangers. And unlike most counsellors, I have lived experience with addiction myself—I'm not observing from the outside. The discovery call is a great way to see if this approach resonates with you. Book yours here.

What types of addiction do you work with?

I work with all substance-related addictions: alcohol, opioids, prescription medications, stimulants, cannabis, and polysubstance use. Whether you're worried about your drinking or deep into active addiction, we can work together. Let's talk about your situation.

I've tried counseling before and it didn't help.

I hear this often. Many counseling approaches are passive—lots of talking, not much changing. My approach is structured and accountability-focused. We set real goals, track real progress, and adjust when something isn't working. This isn't therapy for therapy's sake. That's exactly why the discovery call is free—so you can see if this feels different. Book your free call.

Can family members participate in sessions?

Absolutely. Depending on your program, family sessions can be included. I've developed family support programs throughout my career because I know addiction affects the whole family, not just the individual. Many families find that even one session together changes the dynamic completely. Book a call to discuss options.

What if I'm not sure I'm ready?

That's exactly what the discovery call is for. You don't need to be "ready" to have a conversation. Just curious is enough. We'll talk, see if it feels right, and there's absolutely no pressure to commit. Most clients weren't sure when they first reached out either. Let's talk.

Is this covered by insurance?

Private counseling services are generally not covered by provincial health insurance. However, I provide receipts that may be eligible for submission to private insurance, Health Spending Accounts (HSA), or wellness spending accounts. Payment plans are also available. Have questions about payment? We can discuss it on your free call.

What if I have a crisis between sessions?

Higher-tier programs include extended support and crisis protocols. We'll set up your safety plan in our very first session. Additionally, I'll provide you with crisis resources for immediate emergencies. Please note: this is not a crisis service—if you're in immediate danger, please call 911 or a crisis hotline.
